25,000 jobs to be created for Omanis, says Council of Ministers

Muscat: A total of 25,000 jobs will be created for Omanis in the state’s public and private sectors beginning December 2017, the Council of Ministers decided in a meeting on Tuesday.
The Council also urged the private sector to offer attractive employment opportunities to Omanis.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Council of Ministers said: “In implementation of the continuous attention accorded by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said towards the welfare of Omani youths, the upgrading of their capabilities and the utilisation of their capacities to effectively contribute to the country’s comprehensive development march in the current prosperous reign, the Council of Ministers has reaffirmed that it is pressing ahead with all the steps that support this Royal approach.
“The Council of Ministers has devised plans and programmes needed to provide suitable employment opportunities for the national manpower. Throughout the year, the Council has been engaged in ways to realise a suitable and sustainable treatment of all aspects of this issue (employment). The topic of job seekers was and has always been present in the agenda of the Council of Ministers.”
“In view of the executive procedures reached by the Council of Ministers during its sessions and, in its quest for practical solutions, the Council of Ministers, during its recent session held on October 3, 2017, decided to provide jobs for 25,000 Omanis in the state’s public and private establishments, as a first stage to begin in December 2017.
“The Council of Ministers also approved a set of ‘executive steps’ which will be carried out concurrently with the first stage of employment plan. These steps aim to provide suitable conditions that will enable the government to continue to absorb more job seekers in line with its plans and programmes aimed to achieve the overall objective.
“While commending all citizens for their understanding of the current challenges, the Council of Ministers has urged all private sector establishments to take the initiative and shoulder their national responsibilities in the issue of employment of Omanis, notably by offering attractive employment conditions that are attractive to Omanis.
“The Council of Ministers has urged private sector establishments to accord maximum priority to Omanisation in their programmes and projects, noting that there are actions to be taken against the establishments which do not cooperate with the efforts of the government in its strive to support employment and Omanisation policies.”
