Oman leisure: ROHM’s legendary performances for October

After opening in September with fabled works including Verdi’s magnificent opera, Aida, and Tchaikovsky’s exquisite ballet, Swan Lake, the Royal Opera House sails into October with a real blockbuster.

SIR CLIFF RICHARD

The ROHM will make history when it brings world-renowned popular music megastar Cliff Richard to town. Knighted for his phenomenal contribution to popular music, Sir Cliff Richard has sold more than 250 million records worldwide, with numerous gold and platinum hits. Cliff Richard’s stardom goes back almost six decades to 1958 with his first hit single – Move it, said to be Britain’s first authentic Rock and Roll song. John Lennon declared that “before Cliff ... there had been nothing worth listening to in British music”. Cliff Richard brings the Golden Age of Rock and Roll into the twenty-first century with smash hits from the fifties in his latest album, Just... Fabulous Rock ‘n Roll. On stage at the ROHM, Cliff Richard will sing some of these classics, along with his own original hits. This performance will be a phenomenal once-in-a-lifetime experience for all who come.

OMANI WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION

Celebrating its seventh annual tribute to the achievements of Omani women in music, art and society, ROHM will host the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra Ladies Chamber Ensemble and great performers from the Oman Oud Hobbyists Association, including women stars. The dazzling young Yemeni singer, Balqees will give her trademark high-octane performance, with some exciting surprises.

ROSSINI: L’OCCASIONE FA IL LADRO

In a superb production with brilliant staging and world-class Rossini opera singers, L’Occasione fa il Ladro (Opportunity Makes a Thief) relates a funny, beautifully sung tale of identity theft and mixed-up romantic rivals. An entangled web of obstacles, deceptions and lucky twists of fate result in happiness all around. The big star is the award-winning Russian soprano, Olga Peretyatko who is renowned for the suppleness and lush depth of her voice, as well as the spectrum of emotions that she masters. The Orchestra Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini will be conducted by the renowned American maestro, Christopher Franklin.
