Oman's iconic Muttrah Fish Market is now open to the public

Muscat: One of the most iconic landmarks in Muscat, the new Muttrah Fish Market, opened its gates to everyone on Tuesday.
The Wali of Muttrah and a number of Muscat Municipality officials visited the market on the first day of its operation, according to Muscat Municipality.
The new fish market will also have a fruit and vegetable section, a coffee shop and a seafood restaurant and will boost trade and tourism in the area.
Located close to Port Sultan Qaboos, which has now been declared a tourism port, the well-planned new fish market is expected to attract tourists who visit Oman from cruise ships.
“We are sure that it will become one of the iconic landmarks of Muscat,” a resident of Muttrah said.
The new fish market will also feature fish landing, refrigeration, preparation, packaging, storage area, offices for staffs and coffee shops.
The new project was built beside the original fish market, built in 1960.
