New Islamic year holiday announced in Oman

Muscat: Sunday, September 24, will be the the new Islamic Year holiday in Oman after the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs (MERA) announced that it couldn't sight the moon of Muharram of the new Hijri year 1439 AH on Wednesday evening.

It announced that tomorrow, Thursday, September 21, will be the last day of the current Islamic Year.
"Friday will be the first day of Muharram which falls on September 22, 2017," MERA said in its moon sighting statement.

"On this Occasion, the Ministry of Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs is offering its greetings and congratulations to His Majesty the Sultan," MERA added in the statement.
