Video shows violence on the streets of Atlanta during a protest against the shooting death of 21-year-old Georgia Institute of Technology student Scout Schultz. Grace Lee reports.
Chaotic scenes on the streets of Atlanta on Monday (September 18) night, during a protest after the shooting of Georgia Tech student Scout Schultz.
Amateur video showing police tussling with students at the campus police headquarters. An alert was issued for people to stay indoors as things got heated. One demonstrator breaking away with an officer hot on her heels. Fellow students rushing to her aid as she's pinned to the ground. According to the Georgia Tech website, a police car was damaged, reportedly set on fire, and two officers suffered minor injuries.
That resulted in the arrest of three people, who were charged with inciting a riot and officer battery. Officials say around 50 people were involved in the protest, which broke out after a peaceful vigil for Schultz, whose death was recorded in another video from social media on Saturday (September 16) night.
Officers were responding to a 911 call. Schultz approached them armed with a knife and continued to advance despite warnings. Officials say the call was in fact made by Schultz and that three suicide notes were found in the student's dorm room.
