Oman Embassy in US helps hurricane-affected students

Muscat: A group of Omani students in the United States was helped by the Oman Embassy in Washington after Hurricane Irma struck Florida and cut power to more than one million homes.
The Embassy arranged accommodation for 35 Omani students, who could not return to Florida due to electricity shortages caused by the hurricane.
Speaking to the Times of Oman, the Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of the Sultanate in Washington, Dr. Talal Al Balushi, said: “The 35 students are boys and girls, who have been booked into locations closed to D.C., Vienna and Virginia in Washington as they were not able to go back to Florida due to electricity shortage in their state.”
“They have been informed by their universities that they cannot return to Florida due to electricity shortage there. Therefore, we told them to not go anywhere, and asked them to come close to the cultural office and said we will manage their bookings. They all came to our office and that was the gathering that we had with them. The rest of the students are in other states,” he added.
According to Al Balushi, some of the 35 students intend to make use of their time until life returns to normal in Florida and have approached the Cultural Attaché for voluntary internships.
