New Muscat airport opening moves closer

Muscat: Companies have been invited to bid to provide customer services at Oman's new airport, expected to open by the end of the year.
Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC) has invited local and international companies registered with the Tender Board to bid for the provision of customer services at new Muscat International Airport and to conduct a feasibility study for the installation of Solar PV cells at Oman Airports.
Participating companies must provide a bank guarantee, issued by a local registered bank, for the sum of not less than 1 per cent of the tender value addressed to the Chairman of the Purchasing and Auction Committee, valid for 90 days from the date of submission of the tenders.
Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) trials are being carried out at Oman's new airport. "New basic ORAT trials continue for three weeks in a row at the New Muscat International Airport," OAMC recently said.
Last month, OAMC had also invited local and international companies to bid for the management of passenger trolleys at the new airport.
The new Muscat International Airport will have a capacity to handle 12 million passengers when it is opened, expected to be by the end of this year.
Combined passenger numbers of the Muscat International and Salalah airports are inching towards the 9 million mark, according to latest government data.
