Haitham to sing at Oman-Pakistan Friendship Cup hockey match ceremony

Muscat: Omani singing sensation Haitham Mohammed Rafi is performing a selection of national songs live in both Arabic and Urdu, at the closing ceremony of the Oman-Pakistan Friendship Cup on Friday in Muscat.
“I feel proud to be a part of this important sporting event between Oman and Pakistan, celebrating the tied relationship between the two countries,” said Haitham.
He added that he thinks that both music and sport have become two of the most important things to bring people together.
The match has been organised by Pakistan’s embassy in Muscat to mark the nation’s 70th Independence Day, with hockey being chosen as the sport of choice because of the strong presence it has in both countries.
The venue will include a colourful laser show and live vocal and instrumental performances. In addition, a raffle draw held during the tournament will see lucky winners receive free tickets to Pakistan, Samsung Galaxy S7 phones and even TVs.
Haitham was crowned winner of the Indian singing reality show, Dil Hai Hindustani, broadcast on Star Plus. Dil Hai Hindustani had many singing talents from around the world including from the USA and Russia.
But it was Haitham’s soulful voice that appeared to have won the hearts of Indian music fans.
Haitham has lived among Indians and Pakistanis since childhood, and learnt some Hindi and Urdu. He also watched many Hindi movies, and developed his interest in Hindi music.
The event will take place at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex at 7:30pm on Friday.
