Muscat: Heroin and cannabis were seized in Musandam, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) announced.

"The Directorate General of Narcotics Control in Musandam, in cooperation with the Bakhah police station, arrested a Gulf national in Wilayat Bakhka for possession and use of narcotic substances. The suspect was found with a quantity of cannabis," an official from the ROP said.

Three men were also detained after heroin was found on a boat.

"The coastguard patrol managed to capture and arrest three Asians on a boat. During the inspection, heroin and drug were found," the official added.

The accused were referred to the Public Prosecution for further legal action.

Yesterday, an Asian national was caught trying to smuggle marijuana at Muscat International Airport.

The Royal Oman Police called upon citizens and residents to "cooperate in combating this scourge and to inform the police of any information that helps in the detection of drug smugglers and drug traffickers by calling 9119 or the Hotline for General Administration of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (1444), or reporting it to the nearest police station.
