Protecting children from abuse on the agenda in Oman

Muscat: Child abuse, drug addiction rates and child protection were discussed today by members of the Child Protection Committee, the Ministry of Social Development announced.

"The second meeting of the child protection committee was held today in Muscat, where they discussed topics including child abuse, drug addiction statistics and child protection," MoSD said online.

Last year, an emergency hotline was launched for young victims, or the public, to report cases of violence or neglect to the authorities. The hotline aimed to protect children from abuse, violence, and neglect, and give them psychological and social support. The child protection line will also provide legal advice to families.

The move by the Ministry of Social Development to establish a child protection line was welcomed by the public. Activists hope that more cases of abuse will be reported as the child protection committee starts receiving complaints
