Musharka conference focuses on investing in smart network

Muscat: Nama Group launched Musharka Conference 2017 at Oman Electricity Transmission Company’s headquarters on September 10, 2017.
This year's conference was attended by a number of board members, chief executive officers (CEOs) of the Nama Group, and a number of emerging staff leaders “Ruwad.” The conference adopted live streaming technology to allow all Nama Group’s employees and interested stakeholders to watch and interact with the speakers at the conference through the internet, according to a press release.
“Our conference’s theme—“Powering the Future”—was well reflected in the variety of speakers and topics selected, which included a number of enriching presentations from leading local and international institutions,” said Omar bin Khalfan Al Wahaibi, chief executive officer of Nama Group.
“The presentations will be attended by our Ruwad, who will be participating in a three-day workshop to develop scenarios for the future," Al Wahaibi added.
Conference papers
The first paper was presented by Prof. Syed Islam, professor in Electrical Power Engineering and director of the Centre for Smart Grid and Sustainable Energy Systems at the University of Curtin, Australia. The paper highlighted the importance of investing in smart networks and renewable energy, the need to use modern technology in the development of energy institutions and the most important developments in the past few years in the services provided to customers.
The second paper—"Energy Economic Potential for the Utility-Scale"—was presented by Dr. Hosni Ghedira, director of the Research Centre for Renewable Energy Mapping and Assessment at the Masdar Institute, United Arab Emirates. The paper focused on the importance of photovoltaic power generation as an alternative source of energy generation in the Middle East and North Africa region.
The third paper was presented by Shatha Al Maskiry, country managing director, Protiviti in Oman, on the effects of technological development on human resources and its contribution to employee efficiency, job satisfaction and the importance of using modern electronic channels and means of social communication in the process of effective communication.
The fourth paper outlined the future vision of pure renewable energy and the economic feasibility of the solar power generation sector in Oman, compared with other sources of energy. This paper was presented by Christensen Fleming, senior projects manager and advisor for Energy Services and Planning Sector “CECI.”
The importance of shared services via technology and the need to create an information network for the beneficiaries of the electricity sector; was the topic dealt with by the fifth paper presented by Michel Wu, vice president, Digital Technology and chief information officer, GE.
The sixth paper was presented by Mohammed Sweidan, enterprise service manager, Microsoft, on the services sector and the importance of the digital transformation for the companies operating in the energy and services sector.
The seventh paper was about "The Digital Employee of the Future" presented by Vikesh Sachdeva, senior advisor in Digital Solutions for the utility segment,Wipro.
The Musharaka Conference will also include a three-day workshop starting from Sunday and ending with the closing ceremony on Thursday. The workshops will be attended by Ruwad, their mentors, group CEOs and the strategy and planning teams to develop the scenarios. The final pitch and workshop outputs will be presented at the closing ceremony at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Muscat.
