OmanPride: Soak up the splendour of Musandam

#ReadersResponse: There are many people who have heard of the wild, untamed natural beauty of Oman. Mention the word ‘Musandam’ to them, though, and they are likely to nod along in confused embarrassment. Those who have been to what many call ‘The Norway of Arabia’, though, are only too happy to recall the fond memories they have of Oman’s northern outpost.

“My trip to Musandam was a truly amazing journey,” recalled Zahid Hussain. “I took the ferry from the National Ferries Company from beautiful Mina Qaboos sea port to Khasab port. After saying my prayers in the morning, and enjoying a lovely breakfast, I drove my Nissan off road Xterra over the great, beautiful thrilling roads and reached the high peaks of breath-taking Musandam.

“I must admit, though, that these roads were some of the most dangerous I had travelled on, and serious concentration was required to be brave on them,” he added. “I would recommend everyone to prepare snacks and food for the journey, make sure they have enough water and drinks, and also ensure they have some ice or a cool box if required because it can get quite hot at times.”

Zahid also had plenty of advice for the ride people would be taking. “Check all your tyres and ensure you have a spare wheel, make sure you have a first aid box, and I would also advise people to return home before sunset,” he explained.
“Stay well hydrated and keep fit so that you don’t experience any problems in the mountains, and make sure you read the signage, especially those that are found on the larger red boards.”

“Please do enjoy the most lovely of drives throughout the beautiful corniche of Musandam, until you reach Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE,” said Zahid. “Do also enjoy sailing on a dhow, spending your day seeing Musandam and the beautiful islands around it.”

Ragini More also had fond memories of Oman’s northern bastion. “I really had some great times in Musandam. It was a lovely place to visit,” she said. “It is truly one of Oman’s most beautiful places,” as Rajesh Mayankar added, “This is an amazing place to visit. I advise everyone in Oman to check out Musandam.”

Most visitors to Musandam were taken aback by the mountainous terrain and harshly beautiful landscape of the north.
“Khasab and Musandam are both really nice places to spend time,” said Ravindher Dasari. “I would like to go their again, and take my family with me.”

His views were echoed by Shamim Khan, who said, “Musandam is a really, really beautiful place. Everyone should see it at least once in their lifetime.”

Laura Smith was also awed by Musandam: “Wow,” she exclaimed. “Musandam is an amazing place. It’s truly breath-taking, from its pristine clear blue waters, to its stunning mountains, and of course, let’s not forget the friendliness and hospitality of the kind and welcoming Omani people.”
