Muscat bourse recovers on institutional support

MUSCAT: Despite poor trading activity, the MSM30 Index gained 0.21 per cent to close at 5,063.11 points. The MSM Sharia Index closed at 739.24 points, up by 0.13 per cent. Al Madina Investment was the most active in terms of volume as well as turnover. The top gainer was Oman Fisheries, up by 6.67 per cent, while Oman Education and Training was the top loser, down by 7.05 per cent.
A total number of 416 trades were executed on Wednesday, generating turnover of OMR1.09 million with 9.84 million shares changing hands. Out of 26 traded securities, 13 advanced, 4 declined and 9 remained unchanged. Omani investors remained net buyers for OMR72,000 followed by GCC and Arab investors for OMR2,000 while foreign investors were net sellers for OMR74,000 worth of shares.
Financial Index advanced 0.69 per cent to close at 7,504.80 points. Al Sharqia Investments, Al Madina Takaful, Gulf Investment Services, Al Anwar Holding and National Bank of Oman gained 3 per cent, 2.97 per cent, 2.60 per cent, 1.94 per cent and 1.42 per cent, respectively.
Industrial Index gained 0.39 per cent to close at 6,787.45 points. Oman Fisheries, and Galfar Engineering gained 6.67 per cent and 1.37 per cent, respectively.
Services Index retreated 0.34 per cent to close at 2,461.75 points. Al Jazeera Services, Port Services and Ooredoo increased by 2.86 per cent, 0.56 per cent and 0.45 per cent, respectively. Oman Education & Training, Phoenix Power, OIFC and Oman Telecommunications Company declined by 7.05 per cent, 2.46 per cent, 1.22 per cent and 1.20 per cent, respectively.
