Oman shares rise on strong investor buying

Muscat: The MSM30 Index continued its brief recovery to close at 4,972.30 points, up 0.58 per cent. The MSM Sharia Index ended at 734.10 points, up 0.27 per cent. Al Anwar Holding was the most active in terms of volume while Omantel continued to be leader in turnover. Up 8.94 per cent, Voltamp Energy was the top gainer while Al Maha Petroleum was the top loser, down 6.81 per cent.
A total number of 872 trades were executed on Tuesday, generating turnover of OMR2.78 million with 12.7 million shares changing hands. Out of 37 traded securities, 13 advanced, 10 declined and 14 remained unchanged. At the end of the session, GCC & Arab Investors switched to net buyers for OMR253,000 followed by Omani Investors for OMR200,000 while Foreign Investors continued to be net sellers for OMR453,000 worth of shares.
Financial Index ended positively at 7,359.82 points, up 0.49 per cent. Al Anwar Holding, Al Sharqia Investments, Gulf Investment Services and NBO increased 7.75 per cent, 3.96 per cent, 2.60 per cent and 0.95 per cent respectively. Al Madina Investments, Al Izz Bank, Al Madina Takaful, National Finance and Al Ahlia Insurance lost 3.08 per cent, 1.35 per cent, 0.99 per cent, 0.69 per cent and 0.65 per cent respectively.
Industrial Index advanced 0.52 per cent to close at 6,675.20 points. Voltamp Energy, up 8.94 per cent, was the sole sector gainer. Al Anwar Ceramics and Oman Fisheries declined 1.61 per cent and 0.97 per cent respectively.
Services Index closed at 2,450.05 points, up 0.28 per cent. Omantel, Oman National Engineering, Ooredoo, Renaissance Services and Phoenix Power gained 3.46 per cent, 2.61 per cent, 1.87 per cent, 1.76 per cent and 1.71 per cent respectively. Al Maha Petroleum and Al Jazeera Services decreased 6.81 per cent and 0.71 per cent respectively.
