Ras Madraka village in Duqm is just the destination for nature lovers

Duqm: Ras Madraka, in the Wilayat of Duqm in the Governorate of Al Wusta, is a coastal village, characterised by its moderate weather throughout the year and by the wonderful tourist attractions that nature has created.
These are represented in the mountainous and rocky formations overlooking the Arabian Sea on one side and the soft golden sand on the other, forming a tourist destination for visitors from inside and outside the Sultanate.
The Ras Madraka village is located southeast of the Wilayat of Duqm. It is about 75 kilometres (km) away from the wilayat’s centre in Wadi Sai. It can be reached through several routes, including a 600 km-road from the Governorate of Muscat to the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi in the Governorate of North A’Sharqiyah and the Wilayat of Mahout in the Governorate of Al Wusta at the centre of the Wilayat of Duqm. People coming from the Governorates of Muscat, Musandam, North and South Al Batinah, North and South A’Sharqiyah can follow this route.
Zayed bin Juma Al Junaibi, deputy chairman of the Municipal Council in the Governorate of Al Wusta said the Ras Madraka village is an attractive tourist place, primarily because of its natural beauty. It is a coastal village. Its weather is moderate during most seasons of the year, where the fog covers most parts with a nice breeze, thanks to the breadth of its beautiful beaches.
He added that visitors can enjoy the wonderful view of the village and the blue shades of the sea, from the foot of the mountain. The view is like a beautiful painting that embodies the overlapping of water with the land. Among the places that visitors can go to before coming to the Ras Madraka village is Ras Markaz, located five km from the Dhahar village, where one can take the road left for a distance of 14 km to overlook the beautiful scenery when he reaches Ras Markaz, as the mountains overlap with the sea. The region has reported tourist activity, especially during the summer for its beautiful weather.
Al Junaibi explained that the village is famous for its beautiful coast, which extends for a long distance and has soft sand.
Tourists can enjoy surfing some times of the year because of the high waves, as well as fishing for the abundance of various types fish, in addition to many birds and some other marine creatures, such as crabs.
He added that Ras Madraka is famous for one type of tourism: Camping Tourism.
There are a number of government services in the village that serve the citizens and the residents directly, including the health centre, school, a desalination plant, internal roads, social housing, a communications network and a complex for Omani fishermen.
Al Junaibi further said since Ras Madraka is a coastal village and due to its rich marine resources, including fish, the fishing profession is of particular importance to the villagers as it is the main profession for them and many of them are keen to accompany their children when they go fishing, especially during summer vacations.
The Sultanate’s government is keen to revive and maintain this profession by paving the road leading to the beach so as to facilitate the movement of fishermen in the fishing areas. It also allows for the issuance of permits to establish factories and fish refrigerators that have increased in recent years. There are three fish factories in the village, exporting fish to the markets of the Sultanate and neighbouring countries and this is a positive plan so that fishermen can find marketing outlets close to them without the need to bother transporting fish in small cars to different markets in the Sultanate.
