Oman tennis: Fatma Al Nabhani marches ahead in Spain

Muscat: Playing consistence tennis, Omani star Fatma Al Nabhani advanced both in the singles and doubles competitions of the second of the back-to-back $15,000 ITF Pro Circuit Las Palmos de Gran Canaria tournaments in Spain on Wednesday.
Fatma, who won the doubles runners-up place in the company of Arabela Fernandez Rabener of Spain in the first tournament, moved into the singles quarterfinals on Wednesday before the Omani and her partner stormed into the doubles semifinals.
In the singles second round match, top seeded Fatma brushed aside the challenge of unseeded Belarus girl Anastasia Yakimova for a 6-1, 6-0 win.
Fatma, who defeated German Jil Nova Engelmann 6-2, 6-4 in the first round, will take on Spain’s Lucia Marzal Martinez in the quarterfinals.
Lucia advanced to last eight stage after defeating Fatma’s doubles partner Arabela by a 6-3, 6-1 margin in her second round match.
Later in the evening session, Fatma and Arabela were ruthless in their doubles quarterfinal win over German pair of Maja Issler and Amelie Carolin Kurpiers, conceding just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 verdict.
In the last four stage, Fatma and Arabela will clash with Spanish fourth seeds Angela Fita Boluda and Lucia Marzal Martinez.
Angela and Lucia moved into the semifinals after defeating Germany’s Constanze Stepan and Juliana Volero of Colombia 6-2, 6-4.
Last week, Fatma and Arabela won the doubles second place in the first tournament where the Omani girl’s singles challenge ended in the quarterfinals.
