French authorities say terrorism has been ruled out as a motive in an attack near Paris, where a young girl has died after a car rammed into the terrace of a pizzeria. Grace Lee reports.
Terrorism has been ruled out at this crime scene in a small town East of Paris, where a car plowed into the terrace of a pizzeria, killing a young girl and seriously hurting several others.
"I regret to say there are 14 victims, a young girl aged 12 has died," said a French prosecutor. "Five victims are in life threatening state, including a 3 year old boy who has been taken to hospital in critical condition."
Police say a 32 year-old man, described as "depressive" and "unstable", was behind the wheel.
What's clear, they say, is that this was not an accident.
"An individual at the wheel of a BMW, drove deliberately into a pizzeria where there were several diners."
It happened during the eve of a national holiday, and witnesses say the outdoor area of the restaurant was busy.
Others say everyone on the terrace was hit.
