Oman economy: Gulf conformity tracking system highlighted

Muscat: In cooperation with the GCC Standardisation Organisation, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, organised on Sunday an introductory meeting on the Gulf conformity tracking system at the headquarters of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI).
Sami bin Salim Al Sahib, Acting Director General of Standards and Metrology at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that the meeting aims at supporting the capabilities of the industrial and commercial sectors, facilitating the flow of goods between member countries' markets, removing technical barriers to trade and providing safe products for all citizens in member countries.
The meeting included a number of working papers. Eng. Idris bin Hassan al-Sinan from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry presented a working paper on the work of the Directorate General for Standards and Metrology at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Eng. Ibrahim Al Hashif, Head of the Notification Department and Acting Director of Standardisation Department of the GCC Standardisation Organisation, gave a presentation on the GCC Standardisation
Organisation, as well as another presentation on the GCC system for conformity tracking.
It is worth mentioning that the Directorate General for Standards and Metrology has started the mandatory implementation of the Gulf conformity tracking system in parallel with the implementation of the Gulf Technical Regulations for Electrical Equipment and Appliances since July 2017.
