Oman economy: Meet to focus on fisheries sector investment

Muscat: An economic evening is being organised by The Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development (Ithraa) next Tuesday entitled “Aqua Creatures: The Blue Economy” at the headquarters of the Public Authority of Civil Aviation (PACA).
The evening sheds light on the most important opportunities and challenges related to fisheries and fish aquaculture sector. The Sultanate of Oman is the largest producer of fresh fish in the GCC, with an average production of 204,800 tonnes over the past years, amounting to 446.8 million tonnes, valued $446.8 million. The government investments in fisheries and aquaculture have attracted the attention of many businessmen and investors interested in the sector.
Sajida bint Rashid Al Ghaithiya, Director of Media at Ithraa said that the fisheries sector is one of the most reliable sectors when it comes to the development and economic diversification of the Sultanate. It is also a priority to enhance food security and therefore promotes opportunities for investors and interested businessmen, clarify the business opportunities associated with the production and distribution chain, and discuss the challenges and how to overcome them within the framework of public-private cooperation. She added that the business community in the Sultanate is capable of playing an important role in the development of the aquaculture sector. There are many opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) wishing to invest in the sector, which the specialists will talk about during the evening.
