Muscat shares retreat on dull trading

Muscat: Amid poor trading activity, the MSM30 Index retreated 0.43 per cent to close at 4,969.87 points. MSM Sharia Index ended at 731.17 points, down 0.53 per cent. Ooredoo was the most active in terms of volume as well as turnover. Sunday’s top gainer was Ooredoo, up 0.94 per cent, while the top loser was Omantel, with a loss of 3.13 per cent.
A total number of 180 trades were executed on Sunday, generating turnover of OMR1.63 million with 3.82 million shares changing hands. Out of 20 traded securities, 3 advanced, 8 declined and 9 remained unchanged. GCC and Arab Investors were net buyers for OMR642,000 while Foreign Investors were net sellers for OMR470,000 followed by Omani Investors for OMR172,000 worth of shares.
Financial Index decreased 0.25 per cent to close at 7,440.30 points. Bank Dhofar, up 0.92 per cent, was the sole sector gainer. Al Izz Bank, Al Madina Takaful, Bank Nizwa and Bank Muscat lost 2.70 per cent, 1.89 per cent, 1.08 per cent and 1.06 per cent respectively.
Industrial Index closed at 6,692.88 points, down 0.18 per cent. Oman Fisheries and Galfar Engineering declined 2.78 per cent and 1.37 per cent respectively.
Services Index declined 0.22 per cent to finish at 2,446.18 points. Ooredoo, up 0.94 per cent, was the only sector gainer. Omantel and Al Jazeera Services decreased 3.13 per cent and 0.68 per cent respectively.
