Equestrian: Oman team win silver in Tent Pegging World Cup qualifier

Muscat: Hosts Oman won a silver medal on the opening day of the Tent Pegging World Cup qualifier in Salalah on Tuesday.
The Omani team won the silver medal in the team lance competition finishing behind Yemen while Jordan took the bronze medal.
The Omani team, comprising Hilal bin Hassan Al Balushi, Safwan Al Ma’amari, Ali Al Balushi and Hamad Al Riyami, collected 126 points to settle for silver while their Yemeni counterparts took the gold with 135 points. Jordan won the bronze with 98.5 points.
The World Cup qualifying event is being organised by Oman Equestrian Federation (OEF) under the supervision of International Tent Pegging Federation (ITPF).
The event, which attracted five nations including Qatar and Great Britain, was officially inaugurated by Minister of Sports Affairs Sheikh Saad bin Mohammed Al Mardhouf Al Saadi.
Later Sheikh Saad Al Saadi also handed over the winners of the lance team competition in the presence of OEF chief Sayyid Mundhir bin Saif Al Busaidi and the top dignitaries of the participating teams.
Meanwhile, the OEF chief Sayyid Mundhir informed that the Oman Equestrian Federation in co-operation with Bin Hayl Group will organise the Bin Hayl Endurance Race for 80kms on August 12.
“This is our endeavour to popularise the equestrian sports across the Sultanate and hosting of the Bin Hayl Endurance Race is part of that plan,” he said.
“The Bin Hayl Endurance Race will see participation of 40 teams from various wilayats of the Sultanate,” he added.
Sayyid Mundhir said also said the OEF will also organise a tent pegging championship as part of Khareef Salalah Tourism Festival from August 12 to 15.
