Oman crime: Drug smuggler apprehended at Muscat Airport

Muscat: A European national was caught allegedly smuggling more than 400 capsules of psychotropic drugs through Muscat International Airport, according to a statement by the Royal Oman Police (ROP).

"The Directorate General for the Narcotic Control and Psychotropic Substances foiled the smuggling of Alprazolam (Xanax) by a person of European nationality through Muscat International Airport, and seized more than 400 tablets," the ROP said.

The case has been passed on to the Public Prosecution for legal proceedings.
"The Royal Oman Police asks citizens and residents to cooperate in combating this drug scourge and to inform the police of any information that helps in the detection of drug smugglers and drug traffickers by calling 9999 or going to the nearest police station," the statement said.
