Mental health workshop held by ministry

Muscat: The Ministry of Health organised a workshop entitled "Promoting Community Education and Support to Raise Awareness of Mental Health" today at the Al Misra Hospital.
The aim of the workshop was to inform medical staff and nursing students regarding certain psychological disorders that they may come across. The event also highlighted that most people may go through difficult times and struggle with psychological problems that lead them to require the intervention of specialists to help them.
The event was held under the auspices of Her Highness Al Sayyida Basma Bint Fakhri Al Said and Dr. Fatima Bint Mohammed Al Ajaima, Director General of Health Services in Muscat.
"This seminar aims to provide an effective means of transmitting information on mental disorders, drug abuse, and developmental disabilities as well as improving the community's understanding of mental illness, substance abuse, and disability," according to a spokesman.
The organisers will present the different educational methods that the Sultanate can offer to society to create an understanding of mental health.
During the workshop, speakers will discuss various mental health issues, programs, and services available in the Sultanate that include psychological and mental care programs for the elderly, adults and children, as well as rehabilitation programs for drug control.
Another awareness campaign tackling the stigma associated with mental illness will be held at Muscat Grand Mall on August 3 and 4, from 5:00-9:00pm.
