Curbs on truck drivers using roads to western Dhofar

Muscat: Truck drivers are now forbidden to use the roads heading to the Western regions of Dhofar as well as the Sarfeet border exit due to poor visibility, according to a statement by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
The Khareef (Fall) season weather in the Dhofar governorate obstructs road visibility. In cooperation with the Royal Oman Police, the new procedure starts today and will stay in effect until the end of the Khareef (Fall) season for safety measures.
Fuel tankers, petroleum product trucks and food supply trucks on (3-7T) load are exempt from this notice. Trucks heading to Yemen are allowed to take the Mazyouna-Shahn border exit road instead.
The Ministry of Transport & Communications stated: “Due to the exceptional weather in Dhofar during the Fall season, which is obstructing the visibility on the road, the Ministry decided, in coordination with ROP, to forbid truck drivers heading to the western regions of Dhofar and Sarfeet border exit, to use the road. This procedure will take effect from today until the end of the Fall season as a safety measure.”
