Oman leisure: Oman’s favourite drift photographer

Switching on his artistic mode amid the sound of roaring engines and the smell of burnt tyres is what gives Mahmood Al Qartoobi that kick in photography. The 28-year-old car drifting photographer established himself as a professional shutterbug who enjoys being in the action while snapping away photographs of vehicles swerving in circles at the Oman Automobile Association’s playground.
This young photographer has always been a fan of sports cars, but his passion evolved into something much bigger and somewhat unique, something that allows his creative juices to flow in an adrenaline rush adventure.

Mahmood has been a drifting photographer for five years. It all started when the association asked him to participate at a drifting competition. They were stunned by his raw talent in capturing high-speed movement, and for that he became their go-to photographer for drifting events in the Sultanate.
“This type of photography is very intense, but I love it with all its challenges,” said Mahmood.

One of the challenges that Mahmood faces is finding perfect places to take his photos outside the circuit, as it is illegal to photograph cars, especially drift vehicles, in public spaces and commercial areas. Some of his favourite spots can be found on the outskirts of Muscat, such as Barka and Nizwa.

Mahmood is set to join Oman’s Photographic Association, with hopes to become a successful and resourceful member as he continues to perfect his craft. He also has his very own car sticker shop where he decorates all of the cars that hit the drifting circuit in Oman.
How awesome is that?
