Water supply in Muscat resumes as burst pipe fixed

Muscat: Residents in Al Khuwair and the surrounding areas have access to uninterrupted water supplies once again, after Oman’s Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) repaired a burst feeder pipe in Boushar on Wednesday morning.

“The pipe in Boushar was fixed this morning,” said a spokesperson for the PAEW, which is now known as Diam. “People who are living in the area can now access water and there should be no problems.”

Soon after they’d been notified of the burst pipe, the organisation was quick to notify affected residents in the area via Twitter.



“We would like residents to note a broken main distribution feeder tube for some areas of Boushar,” tweeted the organisation. “Affected areas include Qurum, Al Sarooj, Al Khuwair, Madinat Al Ilam, Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos, and around the ministry road.”

"Competent teams are making efforts to quickly fix it," added Diam. "However, due to the closure of the main distribution pipe, the water service in these areas is expected to be affected for 48 hours. We call upon residents to ration their water consumption.”

However, given the extreme climatic conditions currently prevailing in Oman, residents did not hold back from complaining about the lack of water.

“When are they going to fix the supply, it’s been almost two days with no water for us in Madinat Qaboos,” exclaimed Merriam Masla, while Waterston Billy added, “I please ask the government to fix this because it has to be done immediately.”

“There is no water supply for us in Qurum near Mars Hypermarket,” added Wahab Kazi, which showed the extent of the area affected, as Fatimah Muhamed said, “This should be seen to by the government as soon as possible.”

However, after emergency teams set about working on the stricken pipe through the night, residents once again received continued access to water this morning.

Oman’s Public Authority for Electricity and Water recently underwent a rebranding, with the government-run organisation now calling itself ‘Diam,’ which is plural for dima, the Arabic term for a gentle, continuous shower of rain, with its new green and blue livery representing nature, growth, prosperity, water and sustainability, ideals that Diam is associated with.

In addition, Diam’s new logo features a butterfly motif, which depicts renewed life, as well as nature and purity. This visual device stands for the water’s importance towards growth and continuity of life.
