Don't speed at Eid in Oman, warns ROP

Muscat: "Each of us wants to reach his destination in the shortest period of time, but the proverb says it is better for you to be delayed than never reach."
That was the message from a Royal Oman Police source to drivers tempted to speed during Eid.
The force warned that excess speed reduced the driver’s ability to estimate conditions on the road. When a driver speeds, he/she loses control of the vehicle and increases the chances of an accident, the source said.
"During gatherings for occasions and vacations, some drivers race their vehicles on public roads. There have been many fatal accidents because of these races which turn happiness into sadness," the official said.
According to the ROP, article (50/1) of the Traffic Law means those caught can face imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of up to OMR500.
This law applies to whoever drives his/her vehicle speeding on the road, recklessly or in a way that poses a danger or endangers the lives of people.
