Oman LNG extends support to Golf Oman’s youth development programmes

Muscat: Oman LNG has recently extended their support to the Oman Golf Committee, the governing body of golf in Oman, for another year. Since the Oman Golf Committee’s inception in 2009, Oman LNG has supported their youth development programme every year.
According to a press statement issued by the committee, the year 2017 has already seen the launch of several initiatives with a heavy focus on Junior Development.
Following a recent visit by Tony Bennett who was commissioned by the R&A (Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews) to understand the golfing market of Oman and recommend initiatives, the Oman Golf Committee will soon launch new tee boxes on every course and a school education programme and Oman LNG’s partnership helps these initiative become reality.
Oman Golf Committee Chairman Mundhir Al Barwani said: “Golf in Oman has grown considerably in the last eight years and this would not be possible without the support from our partners. Oman LNG has always been at the forefront particularly with a focus on junior development. Thanks to their support we have more children on our Junior Programmes and have been able to recently launch our school initiative and free course access programme.”
Harib Al Kitani, CEO of Oman LNG, added: “Oman LNG takes great pleasure seeing events like the recent OHI Oman under 15s Open where all the children have come through the junior programmes we have supported. We are also now seeing the Juniors breaking into the Oman National Team. Golf is a fantastic life skill for children to develop; teaching them patience, integrity, honesty and commitment. It is a sport that helps build interpersonal skills, strengthen business relationships as well as bonds with the familywhich is why we are keen to support youth development programmes pertaining to sportsin Oman.”
Oman LNG sees sport as an important part of children’s education and supports various junior sport programmes with golf being an example of this. 2017 has seen a strong growth in the sport with Golf Oman taking the sport to the schools.
The Oman Golf Committee’s mission, with the support of the Ministry of Sporting Affairs and their corporate partners Oman LNG, National Bank of Oman and Omantel, is to raise awareness and participation levels for golf in Oman, to give golfers of all ages the opportunity to play the sport.
The committee aims to create an environment that allows beginners to learn and serious golfers to strive to the top. OGC is working to raise the standard of golf in Oman and produce a national team capable of competing in international events like the Olympic Games and the World Cup of Golf.
