OmanPride: Emcee Salim Al Rahbi uses talent for charity

There are many ways in which human beings can give back to society, and these do not necessarily mean financial resources; sometimes something as simple as offering your positive energy and a hint of humour can also make that change in a way you do not expect. Salim Al Rahbi is a young man, who has dedicated his life to entertaining crowds and planting seeds of happiness in the hearts of those who need it.

Al Rahbi was born and raised in Al Dakhiliyah before moving to Muscat. He is an emcee and an entertainer based in Muscat, who works his magic at a variety of social events. Growing up, the young man has always been keen on being part of society; he was a boy scout in school, which developed his love for community and voluntary work. “Building a relationship between you and your community is crucial.”

Charity can be done in numerous forms; Al Rahbi uses his vibrant character on stage and entertaining technique to bring joy to those around him. He is the go-to emcee for events that carry important messages and are working for a great cause, as he was part of events in Dar Al Atta’a, Oman Cancer Association, as well as events that take place in hospitals and orphanages, or events related to diabetes and disabled children.

Being in a place where you can draw a smile on an orphan or an ill child offers quite a rewarding feel for the young emcee; his determination to make a difference can be seen in his public speaking skills, as he entertains and ensures that everyone gets a dose of laughter, especially those who do not get it often. “Everyone deserve to be a part of society, they deserve to be happy and entertained too,” Al Rahbi explained.

Rewinding back to how his journey began. A coincidence of some sort took place when he was 19 years old. He was asked to emcee for the first time in front of a massive crowd. The stage felt like home for the young man, he truly belonged. After a while, people started recognising him as one of Oman’s best bilingual emcees; as his vibrant energy packed with humour is remarkable. His big break was at a corporate event at the InterContinental, along with his friend and colleague Fatima Hamayon. After that day, Al Rahbi became a much-in-demand entertainer.

He has been an emcee for more than 600 events in town, including at most banks and shopping malls, open days for major companies, as well as his favourite events that are charity-related.
Al Rahbi also lends a helping hand to fellow newcomers by inviting them to events so they can watch and learn some of his on-stage skills. And, he continues to entertain crowds around the country, whether he is getting paid for a corporate event, or volunteering for a cause, being on stage is all that he wants now, more than ever.
