Oman's Ministry of Health extends Phase one of National Measles Vaccination Campaign

Muscat: Phase one of the National Measles Vaccination Campaign has been extended to the end of the month, announced the Ministry of Health officials.
The Ministry of Health has announced that phase one of the National Measles Vaccination campaign, targeting 20-35 year olds in Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates has beenextended.
While phase one was originally scheduled for May 14, and was to conclude on May 20, officials at the Ministry have confirmed that vaccination drives in the two areas will be carried out until May 27.
“We have had great success and received huge response to the campaign at health centres and with field teams, so we would like to provide an opportunity for the larger number of people to benefit from this vaccination drive,” the Ministry added.
Monitoring
The Ministry of Health has been monitoring the prevalence of measles in the Sultanate.
There were 114 confirmed cases in 2016. This year, 44 cases of measles were recorded by the end of April.
The next phase, which includes the rest of the governorates, is proposed to be conducted after holy month of Ramadan, and dates will be announced in
due course.
