Table tennis: Suhail squares off against Subash in men’s singles final

Muscat: Seasoned campaigner Suhail Khan will take on talented teenager Subash Pillai in the final of the men’s singles at the grand finals of Al Amana Building Materials Company-sponsored Annual Table Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club (ISC) on Wednesday evening.
The stage is set for two pulsating finals on the day. The men’s singles final will be followed by the men’s doubles.
Suhail khan put in a splendid act of sound temperament and control as he nullified the exuberance of teenager Shounak Kelkar to win the semifinal 10-12, 11-4, 11-6, 11-6, 11-1.
Shounak came into the final with confidence after winning the boys under-17 title and played brilliantly to win a tight first game.
Suhail took stock and controlled the tempo of the game with brilliant blocks and returns to frustrate the left-handed teenager.
Shounak grew anxious and committed errors as Suhail held his nerves to script a brilliant entry into the final.
Subbash Pillai was at his brilliant best as he faced stiff resistance to overcome the determined Yash Tanna with a hard-fought 11-2, 13-11, 12-10, 14-16, 11-9 victory in the second semifinal.
In the men’s doubles final, the fancied duo of Suhail Khan and Yash Tanna will take on the teenagers Subash Pillai and P. Sai Saran.
