Cricket: Munis, Khawar star in Oman’s win over Kenya Select team

Muscat: Pace ace Munis Ansari claimed six wickets and swashbuckling opening batsman Khawar Ali smashed a 64-ball 71 as Oman recorded a seven-wicket victory over a Kenya Select team in a friendly 50-over match in Nairobi on Sunday
Oman, who are touring Kenya as part of their preparations for the ICC World Cricket League Division 3 competition in Uganda, bounced back from a three-wicket defeat to Kenya XI on Sunday to record a well-deserved victory.
After being asked to field first, Oman did well to bowl out the hosts for 184 in 42.1 overs.
Marsh Patel with 50 was the top scorer for the Kenyans and Nicholas Olouch made 40.
While Munis claimed six wickets, Ajay Lalcheta took two wickets. Khawar Ali and Amir Ali bagged one wicket each.
In reply, Oman eased to 186 for three in just 28.5 overs thanks mainly to the start given by Khawar Ali.
Ajay Lalcheta scored 33 while captain Sultan Ahmed and Naseem Mohammed remained not out on 37 and 20 respectively.
Duleep Mendis-coached Oman will now play practice matches against Malaysia and Kenya XI on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
On May 19, Oman team will leave Kenya for Uganda, where the ICC World Cricket League Division 3 competition will take place from May 23 to 30.
