More than 7 per cent rise in number of fixed phones in Oman

Muscat: Fixed line phones in the Sultanate registered a rise of 7.2 per cent in March according to latest National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) data.
The total number of fixed telephone lines till the end of March 2017 stood at 453,140 as against 449,258 fixed telephone lines registered by the end of February 2017.
The figures pointed out that the pre-paid and post-paid fixed telephone lines till the end of March 2017 rose by 1.9 per cent to 302,660 compared to the end of 2016.
The fixed telephone lines connected to the Internet Protocol (IP) technology stood at 97,437 subscriptions due to re-updating the way of
calculating the number of subscribers.
The Sultanate had a total of 6,801 public telephones last year. The number of integrated services digital networks (ISDN) stood at 44,633
lines, comprising a rise by 2.2 per cent whereas the fixed wireless lines rose by 2.2 per cent to 1,609 lines.
Meanwhile, the number of mobile subscribers as at the end of March 2017 stood 6,976,162 constituting an increase by 1.6 per cent compared to the end of 2016.
The largest number was recorded in the pre-paid mobile subscribers to 6,348,089 comprising a growth by 1.5 per cent compared to the end of 2016.
The number of Internet subscribers stood at 301,872 at the end of March 2017 while the number of the fixed broadband subscribers including DSL and leased lines (WiMAX) stood at 299,319 subscribers.
The active mobile broadband subscribers grew by 13.4 per cent to 4,464,089 compared to figures at the end of 2016.
The total International Internet bandwidth stood at 389,138 megabytes per second (Mbps), comprising a rise by 14.2 per cent compared to the end of 2016.
