Oman leisure: ROHM’s great seasonal finalé

The Royal Opera House Muscat will bring the fabulous 2016-17 season to an end in the month of May with an exotic opera and a spectacular musical show. The Season has taken audiences on a magical journey across the inspiring landscape of the performing arts and became so popular that most performances were sold out.

The soon-to-be announced 2017-18 Season promises to be every bit as stunning.
Les Pêcheurs de Perles (The Pearl Fishers) is a magnificent opera of love and longing by Georges Bizet. The composer was only twenty-five years old when the opera premiered in 1863.

A decade later, Bizet would launch Carmen, the work for which he is most famous. Les Pêcheurs de Perles is being rediscovered by the great opera houses of the world as the magnificent work that it is – morally transcendent with wonderful expressiveness, beautiful musical light, and rich colour.

In ancient times on the Island of Ceylon, two pearl fishers made a vow of eternal friendship, which soon was threatened by their love for the same woman, Leila, a young Brahma priestess whose ethereal beauty they had glimpsed. The fishers renounced their attraction for Leila, swearing to remain true to each other. The stellar cast features tenor, Marc Laho and bass-baritone, Lionel Lhote as the Pearl Fishers. Lhote made a splash last November at ROHM in Don Giovanni. Directed by the award-winning Japanese Director, Yoshi Oïda, the opera is performed by Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Liege. Thursday May 11th and Saturday May 13th, 7:30pm

After the stunning success of Caracalla’s spectacular musical Kan Ya Ma Kan at the ROHM in 2013, the company returns with Sailing Through Time, a new production themed on travels across lands of the ancient world, with a sumptuous and ever-changing array of costume and dance. Recognised as the leading dance company in the Middle East, Caracalla has toured widely, particularly in North America and Europe. Caracalla creates a new language in dance, merging European and Oriental techniques in order to build bridges between East and West. Friday, May 19th, 7:30pm, Saturday May 20th, 4:00pm
