OmanPride: Since launch, Al Baleed Resort Salalah hired 70 local recruits

Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara has taken a step ahead in support of Omanisation by employing over 70 local recruits since its launch last year. Among the efforts of hiring local manpower, the resort introduced a brand new programme that offers training for recent Omani graduates. The efforts came in hopes to encourage students to be part of the hospitality industry in the country.

The programme offers a 10-month paid training funded by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) that gives students a taste of the industry, trying out a variety of roles in the resort. According to Adil Al Subhi, Recruitment Supervisor at NHI, students will choose suitable departments and be trained in different roles within their respective areas every three months. Kitchen, reception, housekeeping, waiting, and travel are some of the professions offered during training.

With the supervision of Resident Manager Abdullah Al Hinai, students will also be given other assignments that include overseeing maintenance inspection of the resort, collecting feedback from both guests and employees, gathering information and history on the Al Baleed area, as well as regular operational duties. After the training, the students are given a role in their respective department that suits their set of skills and abilities, and works well with their preference.

The programme’s first trainee, Waleed Said Mashoun Al Rawahi, is a recent graduate of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU). He was discovered at an open recruitment day by the Resident and was offered a place in the paid course.

James Hewitson, General Manager of Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara, said, “We are delighted with the level of interest to join the team from the locals here in Salalah. It has given us the opportunity to deliver that authentic experience for which Anantara is known and also shows the commitment of the people of Dhofar to supporting tourism in the region as well as our unique resort to deliver a new level of luxury to the destination. We believe our new training programme will lower our turnover rate as well as ensure employee satisfaction in their chosen roles.”

The programme is set to develop skills and prepare local students to work in hospitality and hotel industry in the Sultanate. Background in hospitality is not required, but those applying must be new to the programme, and with no prior scholarships from PDO.
