Oman travel: Ras Al Hadd, where serenity beckons

Travelling on a weekend to a place outside the city can be a very rewarding experience, a retreat that will nourish your soul and relax your mind, and prepare you for the week ahead. Mother Nature in Oman has a lot to offer, from mountainous views, to crystal clear water, to deserted lands.

One of these beauteous places is Ras Al Hadd, a peaceful beach nearby Sur, which is a two-and-a half hours drive from Muscat, there you can camp, play water sports, and watch turtles, too. Nothing brings warmth and excitement to heart more than spending some quality time by the beach, soaking in the sun, and taking in euphoric smell of the ocean, and listening to the music that crashing waves make. Being a resident of this coastal land, I can proudly say that we have some most beautiful sea spreads in the gulf and a huge range of variety, from enclaves to fishing villages.

In Ras Al Hadd, book yourself a stay at Resort Ras Al Hadd Holiday, an hour south of Sur, to ensure a place to sleep, but if you have a hardcore camping spirit, then the beach at the place is a marvellous choice, either way, you’ll get to explore the entire stretch. As you reach Sur, you will be welcomed by a beautiful corniche that will lead you to the road of Ras Al Hadd. Places of interest include Ras Al Hadd castle, a small well-preserved fortress that has a couple of rooms and towers. Admission is free and the views from the tower are stellar. Next up was the Dhow factory, the only traditional boat factory in the Middle East that is still operational. Sur Maritime Museum is another interesting place to visit, where old vessels are on display, pay a visit to learn about their history.

As you explore the area, hit the road to Ras Al Jinz, which is the best place to watch turtles in Oman. It is 20-kilometres away from the resort, just make sure your visit is in turtle season, which is from June to October. Ras Al Hadd also has some beautiful lagoons that will take your breath away. Ask for a lagoon view for the ultimate experience.
The beach of Ras Al Hadd is very remote, and the empty stretch of soft sandy beach reflects that. It was isolated, quite, and perfect. If you are looking forward to a true serene getaway, come here.
