Oman leisure: April at the ROHM

April at the ROHM will be very exciting with six different programmes and eight performances offering extraordinary richness of choice. Local patrons will be thrilled with April’s opening concert during which gorgeous excerpts from Vivaldi’s world-famous The Four Seasons will be accompanied by amazing works of sand art produced live on stage by the talented young Omani artist Shayma Al Mughairy to illustrate the moods of Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Fall. This wonderful family concert will be performed by I Solisti Veneti, Italy’s most popular chamber orchestra led by the acclaimed conductor, Claudio Scimone.

Next comes Giselle, one of the top three ballets of all time, performed by one of the world’s greatest ballet companies, American Ballet Theatre (ABT). And with sets designed by Oscar-winning Gianni Quaranta. The New York Times describes this top-notch production as one that “glows with dramatic life and finely nuanced acting” as the ethereal beauty and mystery of the tragic tale of Giselle is vividly brought to life.
April 6th & 7th, 7:30 pm; April 8th, 4:00 pm

The Swingles are famed for their mesmerising sounds and incredible vocal gymnastics as they demonstrate how the human voice can create almost any mood or atmosphere. They also put on a dazzling choreographic spectacle. This thrilling ensemble with five Grammy awards is at its most impressive when they perform a cappella or without any instrumental accompaniment. Their rich and wide-ranging repertoire includes works influenced by pop and classical music, as well as innovative jazz-influenced harmonies.
April 15th, 4:00 pm

ROHM’s annual Pipe Organ Symposium illustrates the four major periods of Western Music – the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern, with experts explaining and musicians demonstrating the changing role and styles of organ music through the eras.
April 20th, 7:30pm (A FREE TICKETED EVENT)

Dedicated to the impressive ‘King of Instruments’ and complementing the Symposium, ROHM’s annual Pipe Organ Concert will present music from the four major eras of Western Music – the Baroque (Bach, Zipoli, Luchinetti, Vivaldi), Classical (Mozart), Romantic (Elgar, Saint-Saëns, Guilmant) and Modern (Emerson, Barber). ROHM’s magnificent pipe organ will be played solo, with an orchestra, chamber groups, a second organ, pianos, and drums.
April 22nd, 7:30pm

Considered one of the greatest jazz singer-songwriters of her generation, the American jazz diva, Dee Dee Bridgewater is known for brilliant and heartfelt tributes to past jazz legends such as Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, as well as for exploring exciting new horizons in music. Few entertainers have commanded such great depth of artistry. Fewer still have been rewarded with as broad a spectrum of prestigious awards. Among these are a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical; three Grammy Awards and the great honour of induction in France’s Haut Conseil de la Francophonie.
