Beach Kabaddi: Oman return home with silver medal from Mauritius

Muscat: Oman beach kabaddi team returned home with a silver medal after taking part in the International Beach Kabaddi Championship in Mauritius.
The two-day tournament, oranised by Mauritius Kabaddi Association, took place Mont Choisy Beach in northern Mauritius from March 18 and attracted teams from England, India, Kenya and Sri Lanka besides Oman and hosts Mauritius.
Though Oman team performed well throughout the tournament, including a stunning 51-42 win over Kenya which sealed their place in the final, the Sultante’s squad came up short against Sri Lanka in the summit clash.
In the final, Oman were handed a 40-21 defeat by eventual champions Sri Lanka.
Oman’s silver-medal winning performance is commendable considering the team took part in an international tournament after a long gap, their last outing coming in the Asian Beach Games way back in 2014.
Oman coach Salem Al Sinani was all praise for the team for winning the silver.
The coach also said though the team’s target was gold medal they could not achieve that due to various factors, including injuries to some key players.
Meanwhile, the women’s title was won by India, who defeated England in the final.
