Oman observes World Meteorological Day

Muscat: The Sultanate, represented by the Directorate General of Meteorology at the Public Authority of Civil Aviation (PACA), will mark on Thursday the World Meteorological Day in commemoration of the entry into force of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Convention in the year 1950. The theme of this year is "Understanding Clouds".
Dr. Mohammed bin Nasser Al Za'abi, CEO of PACA said that since its accession to the membership of WMO in 1975, the Sultanate has been active that used numerical weather prediction in the prediction process. On March 23, 2015, the National Multi Hazard Early Warning System was launched, which brought about a significant change in terms of equipment, communication systems, adding that four weather radars were installed in Ras Al Hadd, Fahud, Duqm, and Salalah, and six marine radars and Global Positioning System (GPS), in addition to an increase in the number of meteorological stations to 75 meteorological stations.
Dr. Al Zaabi said that the authority is proud of Oman's 100 per cent competencies and the Sultanate's advanced capabilities in the field of meteorology which have been reflected on the ground by the commendations received by PACA from many international and regional organizations when the adverse weather conditions happened in the Sultanate.
