Oman Golf: Puli and Sheena emerge champions at Muscat Hills

Muscat: Puli Sharma and Sheena Holtkamp emerged the winners in the 2017 Muscat Hills Club Championships here recently.
Puli Sharma took the top honours in the men’s section with a gross score of 164 and Sheena Holtkamp won the women’s title with a gross score of 172.
After first day’s action, Puli Sharma took a three-shot lead in the men’s division but a number of golfers were in pursuit of the leader him.
In the ladies division it was much closer, with both Sheena Holtkamp and past club champion Sanjoli Singh tied for the lead. However, starting on Day 2 Sheena Holtkamp came off the mark quickly, making a birdie on the first and putting Sanjoli Singh under some pressure creating a six shot swing after two holes.
Sheena Holtlkamp held on to her lead for the rest of the action and held her nerve right until the end.
Puli Sharma, on the other hand, didn’t get the start he wanted on Day 2, dropping five shots on the first three holes and letting the rest of the field back into contention. He steadied himself though and had a run of pars thereafter, keeping himself at the top.
He didn’t go unchallenged though as outsider club captain Sha Sudha had a very strong finish to put some pressure on Puli causing him an unfortunately three putt on the last hole to take the game into a playoff.
It was a well-fought playoff, but Sha Sudha just missed his par chance leaving Puli Sharma to make his par to take the title.
