Motorsport: Oman’s Soomar, Al Qasimi eye podium places at Ras Al Khaimah Rally

Muscat: After winning the second place in the second round of UAE Rally Championship, Omani rally star Khalid Soomar is aiming for a podium place in Ras Al Khaima Rally.

The third round of the UAE Rally Championship is scheduled to take place on Saturday.

Khalid Soomar and his co-driver Issa Al Wardi will be driving a Mitsubishi Evo 7 when they go all out for a top place in Ras Al Khaimah.

Oman will also be represented by Hamid Al Qasimi and his co-driver Mohammed Al Mazroui, who will be driving a Mitsubishi Evo 8.

Khalid Soomar, who is currently in second overall position in the championship, said he is delighed to particiate in the Ras Al Khaimah Rally and hoping to finish in top places.

“I will try my best to be on top of the podium. I would like to thank Target Company and Shieda Trading Company for supporting us this season.”

Al Qasmi, meanwhile, said: “For me it has been a difficult season, just like the last one, as I have no sponsors. But I would like to thank Sheikh Abdullah Al Qasimi for supporting me on a personal level and his support has helped me in preparing and maintaining my car.”
