Muscat: Suwaiq and Jordan’s Al Ahli played out a goalless draw in a crucial Group A match of the AFC Cup at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Monday.
The draw, Suwaiq’s second in three outings, left the Omani outfit rooted at the bottom of the four-team group with two points. The Jordanian side, who are also on two points, are in third place thanks to their better goal average.
According the the news posted on the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) wesbite, the two teams three points adrift of second placed Al Zawraa of Iraq who defeated Syrian pacesetters Al Jaish 3-1 in Group A’s other tie.
At the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, Liberian forward Marcus Maculey had the bulk of the chances in the first half for visitors Al Ahli, while opposite number Abdulrahman Al Ghassani was also denied at the other end by the Jordanian side’s keeper Mohammad Khater.
There were few chances after the half-time break until 13 minutes from the end when Al Ahli captain Yazan Dahshan hit the post after Yazan Thaji’s pass found the midfielder lurking inside the penalty area.
