Oman transport: Move to curb excess loading of trucks

Muscat: More mobile weight measuring stations for trucks will soon be deployed to control excess loading of trucks.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications said in a statement that work is underway in collaboration with Royal Oman Police (ROP) to implement the truck excess load control system on the road network using the mobile weight taking system.
The statement pointed out that a number of fixed weight stations will be built on Bidbid-Sur road dualisation, Al Batinah Expressway and Adam-Thumrait road, in addition to increasing the number of mobile weight stations.
It also said excess loads have a negative effect on the road life and the concrete facilities. The mobile weight stations are thus rolled over to control excess weight.
The Ministry statistics point out that the number of violators in going downward. While the 25 per cent weight progressive factor is currently in force, a study is underway to implement weights without the progressive factor.
The statement added that work is underway by the Ministry to use technical and technological means to develop and control the road network assets through the road management system.
The Ministry continues its efforts to maintain the road network and ensure safety of road users in coordination with Royal Oman Police. Work is also underway to devise the proper mechanical to limit the number of dumper truck (tri-axial trucks).
