Muscat: A top-level official from Kerala’s State Industrial Development Corporation (SIDCO) has discussed with an Omani company the prospects of setting up state-of-the-art waste management projects in the South Indian state.
Niyas Pulikkalakath, the chairman of SIDCO, met E M Badruddeen, managing director of the Muscat Project and Environmental Service Company, to explore the possibility of implementing waste management projects in Kerala.
Addressing the media here, Pulikkalakathu said he was impressed by the waste management projects in the Sultanate and added that he will submit a report to the Kerala government for replicating similar projects aimed at protecting the environment, which is a major concern in Kerala.
During his visit, Pulikkalakathu met the concerned Omani officials and visited various treatment plants, farms and other preserved areas. He said the prevailing waste disposal methods in Oman can easily be replicated in Kerala.
Pulikkalakathu said Kerala is grappling with issues like pollution, usage of an overdose of pesticides in agricultural farms and water pollution.
E M Badhrudeen, managing director, Muscat Project and Environmental Services, and Vijayan, chairman of the Global Services Company, also addressed the media.
