Oman Football: Saham edge Bahrain’s Al Muharraq in AFC Cup

Muscat: Mohammed Al Ghassani’s late winner helped Oman’s Saham open their 2017 AFC Cup account with a thrilling 3-2 victory over 2008 winners Al Muharraq of Bahrain in Group C at Seeb Sports Stadium on Tuesday.
According to news posted on the AFC website, the visitors took the lead on 10 minutes through Dutchman Gregory Nelson only for Saham’s Badar Al Jabri to level in the 32nd minute and Mohsin Jouhar to fire the hosts in front from distance a minute before half-time.
Abdulla Yaser restored parity from the spot six minutes after the interval but the Omani side were not to be denied as Al Ghassani got on the end of substitute Moatasem Al Shibli’s scuffed shot to tap home and secure all three points for Saham, before Al Muharraq’s night got even worse as goalkeeper Sayed Abbas was shown red shortly after the final whistle.
