OmanPride: Indie Nivarro had a dream, and is now living it

In Oman, while there isn’t any dearth of creative people who are making a name for themselves, Indie Nivarro is one such who walked an extra mile to become a multi-talented artist. Mastering in paint brushes, make-up art, fabric stitching and hairstyling, she truly became a super woman of art, full of dreams and ideas. Currently based both in Oman and London, Indie was born in Newcastle in the UK, and was always intrigued by art during her growing up years.

“I always knew I was a bit different and would see things differently. I always had an alternative outlook towards life,” said the artist who claims to have a different imagination when it comes to makeup art. At 17, Indie started working as an artist at a henna parlour. Later, she took a break from art and gave other fields a try, only to realise that her heart belongs to art. After working in major airlines as a cabin crew, among other jobs, she decided to pay full attention to art. She went on to study theatre media makeup, and perfected her skills for theatre, TV and film makeup. After becoming a professional makeup artist, Indie wanted to master in other fields of art such as hairstyling and costume designing.

“I’m a perfectionist, and when I have a vision in my head, I want to translate that vision into the final shot,” explained the artist.
What’s fascinating about her work is that from envisioning concepts, storyboarding, and costume designing to choosing suitable looks, and making props for the photo-shoot, she does it single-handedly. Her love for the art of darkness, influenced by pop culture’s favourites such as A Nightmare on Elm Street horror franchise, can be seen in her prosthetic makeup work and special effects. Her recent Halloween series is a great example of how she perfectly combined fashion with art in a dark-themed photo-shoot.

Her own brand, Twisted Skins FX, is a living proof of how dedicated she is when it comes to her work.
She has worked with top names in the industry, including magazines such as I-D Magazine, Dazed & Confused, and Garage, and brands such as Vivienne Westwood, Nars, Matthew Williamson, Emanuel Ungaro, and Topshop, to name a few. And, she was mentored by the one and only Val Garland, who’s known for his work with Lady Gaga and Kate Moss, among others. She continues to develop herself, with her focus currently on HD brows and eyebrow tattooing. Being an artist is all that Indie ever wanted, and today she’s living her dream.
