Tour of Oman to start on Tuesday

Muscat: One of Oman’s most anticipated annual events, the Tour of Oman will start on Tuesday from Al Sawadi beach at 11am with 144 riders distributed in eight teams.
Organised as part of the Muscat Festival by the Muscat Municipality, the race will be held in six stages across six days (February 14 to 19) covering a distance of 885 km. The starting point is Al Sawadi beach and the finish point by the end of day six is Muttrah corniche.
Celebrity riders
With the cancellation of the Tour of Qatar, Tour of Oman will this year see some celebrity riders compete in the race with the likes of Alexander Kristoff and Fabio Aru. Two teams from the GCC are also taking part- Bahrain- Merida from Bahrain and UAE Abu Dhabi from the United Arab Emirates.
The eight teams belong to France, Kazakhstan, Bahrain, Switzerland, United States of America, Germany, Italy, and the United Arab Emirates.
This is the eighth edition of the race and will be broadcast on 180 channels in different part of
the world.
Oman TV will live broadcast the race for four hours each day on all the six days. Thirty international media persons will be covering the event all through.
Cyclists are loving Oman’s rugged terrain and scenic locations which although challenging offer some lovely competition in the best landscapes.
A 5.7km climb is also scheduled at the Green Mountains (Jabal Akhdar) of Oman.
