Oman leisure: Paint the town red with paintball

Paintball is one of those leisure activities that took Muscat by storm as soon as it was introduced a few years ago. The paintball arena is one of the treasures located beyond the Muscat International Airport in Al Hail. A huge green enclosure is home to various obstacles such as oil drums, tyres, and rusted car bodies with splattered paint stains. This quiet place transforms into a warzone the moment the games begin. Paintball is played following similar rules across the world. The team game is played by a minimum of two teams with an average of five to six players per team. The more the merrier in this sport, as each team member is essentially a toy soldier, complete with body armour and guns to prove it. The play involves running around the field trying to shoot the opponent team’s members without getting shot yourself.
This can range from a free-for-all to a highly strategic battle, depending on your teammates. Don’t worry, in place of a lethal bullet, the guns in this game are loaded with little balls filled with paint, which explodes on impact, marking the downed player. Honestly, they hurt a little, but the fun is oh-so-worth the sting. Once you’re in your paintball suit and have selected your weapons of destruction, you will be briefed about the four rounds to come. There is a five minute break between each round to re-group. The team who win the most rounds are crowned victorious.
The first round is a total elimination round where members from each team have to mark and hit players from the opposing team to eliminate them. Once a player is hit, he/she is eliminated. The team with the last man (or woman) standing, wins. Also members of each team must protect their own flag while trying to capture the opponent team’s flag. This is the round that requires a strong strategy, which all team members must abide by to be successful. Then choose a president. Do not let him get shot. Get him from your base to the opponent team’s base. Once your president is shot, you lose the round. Keep shooting until you run out of bullets. Destroy as many opponents as possible.
