‘Festival of India in Oman’ to feature folk dance from Jammu & Kashmir

Muscat: As part of the ‘Festival of India in Oman,’ the Indian embassy is organizing an Indian folk dance performance by a troupe from the state of Jammu & Kashmir.
The troupe will first perform at the Sohar Beach Hotel on February 10. On February 11, it will perform in Sur at the King Hall near Indian School Sur, followed by a performance in Muscat on February 12 at the Al-Bustan Palace, a Ritz Carlton Hotel, and in Salalah on February 14 at the Indian Social Club.
The ‘Festival of India in Oman,’ being organized to showcase the lesser known facets of India’s rich and diverse culture, will continue to delight with an Indian Food Festival at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, to be organised from March 15 to 19.
This first-ever ‘Festival of India in Oman’ is being organized with support from India’s Ministry of Culture in association with Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Culture. It began in November 2016 and will run until March 2017.
The festival was inaugurated by His Excellency Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, the Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, on November 15, 2016 at the auditorium Al-Bustan Palace, a Ritz Carlton Hotel.
An Indian Calligraphy Exhibition was held in different parts of Oman while a ‘Semi–classical Music Concert’ by Dr. Soma Ghosh and her troupe was also organized as part of the festival.
Dr.Ghosh gave an enthralling performance. She presented different forms of semi classical music, including kajri, ghazals, thumri, sufiana songs and many immortal Bollywood film songs.
Her troupe, which includeda talented dancer, recreated scenes that reflected the atmosphere of traditional Indian 'durbars'—the royal court mehfils of Mughals.
