Oman Tennis: Muneer, Marwan, Azzan make winning start at ISC tourney

Muscat: Talented Omani players Muneer Al Rawahi, Marwan Al Khanjari and Azzan Al Hajry made a winning start to their campaign at the ISC-Muscat Pharmacy Open Junior Tennis Tournament which got underway at the ISC court in Darsait.
Muneer, Marwan and Azzan were all at the top of their game in the first round of the boys under-14 singles where they scored emphatic victories over their respective opponents. Muneer defeated Rahul Varvani 8-0 while Marwan beat Mikul Ramesh also 8-0 and Azzan was not to be left behid and scored a thumping 8-0 victory over Aditya Ram.
In a topsy-turvy first round match of the same event, Achyut Sreekumar edged past J. Siddhant 8-6 after a match of fluctuating fortunes. At one stage, Achyut held a 4-1 advantage before Siddhant staged a brilliant fightback to lead 6-5.
Achyut held to level the score and broke Siddhant for the crucial lead and served out the match to advance to the second round. In other first round matches, Subodh Swaroop scored a confident 8-3 victory over Siddhant Gautam, Vivek Kolluru cruised to a 8-0 win over Agrim Jindal and Vatsal Manikandan blanked Raza Mehdi 8-0.
Other first round winners are Sanskar Dubey who defeated R. Varoon 8-2, Arya Deshpande thumped Neel Oza 8-0 and big-server Rishabh Kant Jha who blanked Abhinith Woonna 8-0.
